Drew Stanton

Stanton recently said he is still interested in taking over for Carson Palmer when he retires.  He is entering his 10th NFL season, 5th in Arizona.

He has shown he can back Palmer up when the Cardinals need him most but has shown in some cases to still be erratic.  Stanton doesn’t really seem like the answer for the future of the quarterback position in Arizona.

He likely will be the number two guy again in 2017, although there is no doubt he will be pushed by Blaine Gabbert, Arizona’s newest addition to their quarterback core.   Stanton will be competing for the second spot with a six-year veteran who has shown little up until now.

Bruce Arians loves Stanton and thus sticks around.  However bringing a guy like Gabbert in has to say that the Cardinals aren’t totally satisfied with what Stanton brings to the table.

Still though, Stanton should keep his spot as the backup this upcoming season.  Will it be his last in Arizona though?
