University of Phoenix as the sponsor name of the stadium

A couple of months ago it was announced the Cardinals home, University of Phoenix Stadium, would be looking for a new sponsor.  There has been no recent news of how that it progressing.

There have been rumors that the Cardinals are in talks with a local tribal casino for naming rights. The Phoenix-area already has Talking Stick Resort Arena in downtown Phoenix for the Phoenix Suns and Gila River Casino Arena for The Arizona Coyotes in Glendale.

Whatever happens though they will become free of the University of Phoenix name.  Quite honestly the name has grown a little bit but it still sounds like they are playing on a college campus.

The Cardinals spent years trying to rid themselves of Sun Devil Stadium at Arizona State University. This is a good move to move on from the current sponsor.

Personally, the area doesn’t need another casino as a sponsor of a local stadium but that is where the local money is.  There are still several that don’t sponsor a stadium so we will see how it plays out.
