Quarterback Blaine Gabbert has begun to make his case for the backup job behind Carson Palmer

Last week, Blaine Gabbert had a strong debut as a Cardinal. He played the entire first half, and generally picked apart the Dallas defense. In a game where Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton didn’t play, the former first round pick shined.

This week, he’ll once again get a chance to try and earn the backup quarterback job. Palmer will start the game, and Stanton will see time as well. Gabbert will play in the second half, but could still impress.

Head coach Bruce Arians has made it clear that Gabbert has been good, but that he’s a ways from taking the number two spot. Gabbert is trying to resurrect his career, and is certain to give everything he’s got in this preseason audition. He’ll have the spotlight again on Saturday.
