Arizona Cardinals: 5 impact undrafted free agents
By Scott Allen
Anthony Wheeler, LB, Texas
If there is an undrafted linebacker with a chance, Wheeler might have the best one to make the team this summer. His numbers spell production.
Wheeler played all four years at Texas, where he accumulated 228 total tackles and 6.5 sacks. Not too shabby as a linebacker. He played in 47 games over his four seasons.
FanSided’s Hook ‘Em Headlines says Wheeler is facing an uphill battle to make a squad. When you look at his overall numbers, that certainly could be the case with many teams. For now, it’s just a mini-camp invite but could turn into more.
Because of where he landed here in Arizona, it is quite possible he has a better chance than an uphill climb. Let’s not forget it was arguably the weakest position on the defense for the 2018 Cardinals.
Either way, it will be fun to watch him compete and see if he becomes one of the lucky few to go undrafted and still find his way onto an NFL roster. I’d give him a slightly better than uphill climb’s chance to make it.
