Colt McCoy – QB

Right now, Colt McCoy‘s the Cardinals’ backup quarterback, which is what he signed on for. However, you can argue that Chris Streveler outperformed McCoy. Streveler, who had an abysmal outing in Week 17 against the Los Angeles Rams last season, looked like he was headed for the waiver wire after Arizona signed McCoy.

And although Streveler looked okay as a passer against the Cowboys in the Cardinals preseason opener, he showed off his dual-threat ability, and that he can move the ball with his legs. Then came the game against the Chiefs in Week 2 of the preseason. Per NFL.comMcCoy struggled, completing just 13 of 18 passes for 118 yards (6.2 yards per attempt) and an interception.

Streveler finished 5 of 6 for 74 yards (12.3 yards per attempt), and a touchdown. With his abilities similar to Kyler Murray‘s, Streveler can overtake McCoy on the depth chart in 2021. McCoy is also in the twilight of his career at age 35, meaning Streveler figures to be the better long-term solution if he keeps things up in practice.

If that’s the case, the Cardinals will eventually list McCoy as inactive on game days. Especially if they plan on using Streveler’s Taysom Hill-like ability in different ways.
