Out With the Old, In With the New

The Arizona Cardinals made a few moves today.

One fully expected, one you knew would be coming, and one out of the blue, at least in my eyes.

Gone are running back Edgerrin James, as expected.  After drafting running back Chris “Beanie” Wells on Saturday, James’ release you knew would come sooner rather than later.  Also released on Tuesday was cornerback Rod Hood. He was just biding his time unfortunately.  He wasn’t all that bad, however there are others who probably can get the job done better right now.

The move that surprised me the most was the release of linebacker Travis LaBoy.  LaBoy, signed as  free agent last off-season, put in a decent season given his injuries.  He had 38 tackles and four sacks in just 13 games.  The tackle total could have been better sure.  His 4 sacks is a pretty good total given his playing time having to nurse groin injuries.  I’m just a little surprised they made a move on him now.

So, now we move on and see if the moves are the right ones.  I always like to believe everything happens for a reason.  Let’s hope these three releases mean the team continues to grow off of 2008 for an even better 2009.
