Cardinals Lucky to be Down Only 9-0 at Halftime

The San Francisco 49’ers kicker David Akers is the difference in today’s game against the Arizona Cardinals with three field goals, giving the Niners a 9-0 lead at halftime.  Oh, and did I mention Akers is hitting at a 50 percent clip so far.  Yeah, he’s 3-6 so far, getting two kick attempts blocked and missing another.  The Niners have been dominant on ball control and yards.  The Cards are lucky to still be within two scores because it hasn’t been the close.

John Skelton has not looked good at all.  Any thought of sending him in permanently in place of Kevin Kolb should be put to rest now.  Skelton is playing like a second-year quarterback.  In fact looks like a rookie.  Beanie Wells has contributed a fumble as well.

As for the Niners, Alex Smith has overthrown a couple of very open receivers.  If not for those and the missed FG’s this could be a blowout right now and quite frankly should be one.  Frank Gore is a beast, doesn’t look like a player coming off injury.  The Cards are going to have to find some way in the second half to muster some offense.
