This Arizona Cardinals Fan Will Be Rooting for the Niners to Win It All

I know it’s popular for fans to root against their division rivals if their rivals make the playoffs and the team they are rooting for doesn’t.  However, I have never subscribed to that belief. Once the season is over, all is forgiven as far as I’m concerned. And that’s why I’m pulling for the San Francisco 49ers to win the Super Bowl.

What a story it would be!  A team that was extremely talented but highly dysfunctional fires their coach (Mike Singletary), hires a new coach (Jim Harbaugh), and completely turns things around in one season.  I wonder what Mike Singletary is thinking these days!

While, to an extent, I agree that some rivalries can die in the post season, and priorities certainly change, I still can’t bring myself to root for the 49ers. It’s not a great field, I strongly dislike the Ravens and Patriots too, so I’ll be cheering for the Giants.

There is just something really off to me about suddenly cheering for a team you’ve spent all the rest of the season wanting to lose.

Someone like the the Packers or Cowboys, for example, I hate them when we play each other, and when our playoff hopes rely on them losing, but otherwise, I don’t really care, but when you play a team twice in a season, and even when you’re not playing against them, you’re cheering for their opponents, so you can remain in contention to win your division… I just can’t turn that off.
