The Arizona Cardinals are in the last week of OTA’s and have a mini-camp remaining before training camp
It is time for our annual look at player by player from A to Z on the current Arizona Cardinals roster as we are now in the final four days of OTA’s and have a three-day mini-camp next week. The next stop is training camp at the end of July.
In this profile we look at guard Jake Bernstein, a rookie from Vanderbilt. He was signed as an undrafted free agent. Initially after the draft the Kansas City Chiefs picked him up.
2015: Bernstein started 12 games for the Commodores of Vanderbilt last season as a fifth-year senior. He was credited with 63 pancake blocks last season and helped running back Ralph Webb to the second-best rushing total in school history.
2016 outlook: With the Cardinals it looks bleak. Even though the Cardinals have had depth issue at offensive line, Bernstein unfortunately looks like nothing more than another body to look at in camp this August.
I will never rule anyone out until that man is cut, however there are a number of guys more likely to make this roster come September. Injuries can always change that though.
He has good size at 6-4 and 310 lbs. He also has the experience of facing very good defensive lines in the SEC, so he is given that.
The Cardinals already have some good talent at guard like Evan Mathis, Mike Iupati, and Earl Watford. Also don’t forget draft pick Cole Toner.
Bernstein has a hill to climb but it isn’t impossible. You may hear more about this guy as the summer rolls along.
