Whisenhunt to Call Offensive Plays

Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt announced yesterday that he will be the offensive playcaller. This was his primary job while in Pittsburgh which included creative plays that got Hines Ward, Randel El and Co. involved in memorable moments. Now with more talented players on the offensive side of the ball, Whisenhunt should be able to call plays with ease. I don’t believe that this will be too much of a burden for Whisenhunt to handle. I actually think this will help him stay grounded since this is what he is comfortable with. Many of the league’s top coaches call plays on one side of the ball. His offensive genius should expedite this offense’s coming of age.

Eventually, Whisenhunt would like to hand over the reigns to offensive coordinator Todd Haley. He did not comment on how long he will take on this role, but success might determine the time span. I think that he would like to show trust in his assistants, but he also wants to succeed as a first-year coach. This is good news for Zona Fans!

"“I feel like I was given an opportunity to do that and I feel an obligation to give other coaches a chance to do that,” he said. “That’s why you want to hire good young coaches who are coming up.”"
