Wide Left…..Skins Top Cards

If you look at the stats, everything points to an Arizona Cardinals win…..more than double the amount of total yards, more first downs, better RB production, better passing numbers…..everything points to a win except TWO STATS – 3 AZ turnovers (2 INTs w/ one returned for a TD and a fumble inside the redzone) & 19 points. The Cards dropped their 3rd loss out of 4 by 3 points or less this year with Sunday’s loss to the Washington Redskins.

The Skins basically handed us this game with their poor offensive play. The problem was that we handed it right back with our turnovers and some bad breaks. The worst break coming in the final 7 seconds of the game. The Cards had recovered an onside kick with 20 seconds left and drove down to the Skins 38 yard line, setting up PK Neil Rackers last-second field goal attempt from 55 yards. The kick (his longest attempt of the season) sailed wide left, and Washington barely escaped with a win.

Quick Hits:

– Cards had 364 total yards on offense: 282 passing and 82 rushing; Kurt Warner (despite playing essentially with one arm) threw two TD passes to Anquan Boldin

– The Cards defense held Skins QB Jason Campbell to 12-18 passing for 95 yards with one INT and prevented the deepball all game.

– The Redskins had only 2 first downs in the entire second half.

– Washington RB Clinton Portis scored two TDs, but was held to 43 yards on 18 carries.

– The Redskins blocked an extra point attempt on the Cards first TD, causing Arizona to try a two point conversion on their final TD to tie up the game, but the conversion attempt failed. That blocked extra point proved to be the difference maker.

So, here we sit. 3-4, second place in the division heading into our bye week. Obviously being 4-3 would be much more ideal, but we’re are still in a good position to make a run in the latter half of the season. 9 games left, and now we have two weeks to prepare for a big road game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Two weeks to rest Kurt’s elbow, two weeks to get this offense sharp and two weeks to save this season. I still believe, do you?

GO CARDS!!
