Cards Poor Defense, Play Calling Give Seahawks 17-10 Halftime Lead
By Scott Allen
The Arizona Cardinals trail the Seattle Seahawks 17-10 at halftime. That’s about the best thing I can say about the Cardinals first half, that they are only down seven points.
Hawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has thrown for 265 yards in the first half. The way the Cards defense has been playing, it might as well be Elizabeth Hasselbeck throwing the ball. The Cards defense can’t stop anything. One one touchdown pass to the Hawks Deion Butler, he had three Cards defenders around him, yet he managed to run around and through them for the score, practically untouched.
You also have to question the play calling. A draw play on third and goal at the five is not exactly the play I draw up for success in that situation. I hope that wasn’t a play Cards quarterback Derek Anderson came up with his own. Speaking of Anderson, he made some very questionable decisions, such as taking his team out of field goal range in the first quarter instead of throwing the ball away.
If the Cards continue more of the same in the second half, they will have no chance and they might as well start playing for the future rather than this season.
