Cardinals Get a Cornerback
By Scott Allen
Well, it’s not Nnamdi Asomugha, but the Arizona Cardinals dipped their feet into the cornerback pond this morning and picked up former Carolina Panthers CB Richard Marshall. Not exactly the name I was looking for, but it does bring in someone with a little experience.
Marshall has had seven interceptions over the past two seasons and has started 46 games for the Panthers since entering the NFL in 2006. So, he’s no spring chicken. I guess they got a veteran and that’s what I was looking for. Hopefully the move works out but I would also hope maybe they still shoot for another vet in the position just in case.
I say just in case because first round draft pick Patrick Peterson isn’t even signed yet and now is starting to miss camp. When you are a rookie, every day is vital, especially if you are thought to be counted on as “the guy”. It would be prudent for the Cards to continue to add depth at cornerback and then subtract as deemed necessary as the preseason rolls on.
