Arizona Cardinals Need to Make Calais Campbell Priroity Number One
By Scott Allen
Calais Campbell had a wonderful season for the Arizona Cardinals. The defensive end was more than just a force on defense. He was also a force on special teams in 2011. If you are looking for a priority for the Cards in this off-season, it should be to give Campbell a contract extension. He’s not the flashiest defensive end in the NFL. If he was, he would be in the Pro Bowl, although he did produce a Pro-Bowl type season. He just became a victim of numbers at his position.
Campbell’s numbers were very good though.
- 72 tackles, 53 of them solo
- 8 sacks
- 3 blocked field goals
- 2 forced fumbles
- 1 interception
Let’s not even talk about the production that doesn’t show up on the stat sheet. He helped quarterbacks run into other sacks. He hurried quarterbacks. he change kicking team’s strategies. Campbell deserves the extra money and hopefully the Cards recognize that.
What you don’t want to run into is another situation like a Karlos Dansby. The Cards large in part ignored his contributions and allowed him to move on to Miami. With Dansby though I think he was in a boat with several other players. With Campbell, he’s really in a boat by himself when it comes to contract extension’s in this off-season. So, let’s get it done Cards!
