Cardinals Reportedly About to Land Another Steelers Free Agent
By Scott Allen
Thank God for Twitter. According to Pittsburgh Steelers free agent cornerback William Gay, he is joining the Arizona Cardinals. He tweeted as much out this morning. If it is true, the Cards have been nothing but mum on the subject, so far. It would be a nice addition for the Cards who finally make a move to pick up a player from outside the organization in a position of need.
It is yet another player in a long line of former Steelers to join the Cardinals. The Cards could use some depth at corner. Injuries and youth were the main issues for the Cards in the defensive backfield in 2011. Gay started 15 games for the Steelers last season.
Gay has familiarity with defensive coordinator Ray Horton. Gay will backup Patrick Peterson and A.J. Jefferson, for now, but could also see time at safety, where Greg Toler returns from an ACL injury. Depth is the key issue here. There is never usually anything wrong with making a strong acquisition from the Steelers defense. I applaud the move.
