Cardinals Go on the Offensive to Shore Up Defense By Re-Signing Campbell

It’s a done deal.  Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman Calais Campbell has been signed to a new 5-year contract  that will keep him in Arizona until at least 2016.  A long time coming, Campbell is coming off a great season.  He was not only a force on the defensive line, however also blocked kicks on special teams.  He was rewarded for his efforts today and now the Cards have one less headache to deal with.

Campbell had his best season in 2011, getting 8 sacks, one interception, and forcing two fumbles.  They were all career highs.  Getting Campbell to agree to a long-term contract was one of the goals the Cards set out to accomplish and one of the higher priority items for fans to see get done.  Now we can breathe easier.

Terms of the deal have not been announced, however I’m sure he’s worth every penny he received and then some.  He could be a major force on the defensive line for years to come.  I expect him to regularly get double-digit sacks each year for the rest of his career.  Congrats to the Cards and Campbell for getting this done before it dragged on.
