Cardinals Break Camp in Flagstaff With Unanswered Questions
By Scott Allen
The good news is, there are still two weeks until the season starts. The bad news is, the Arizona Cardinals still leave Flagstaff with several unanswered questions. Of course the biggest one is the quarterback competition. Who will win that one? Right now, it seems John Skelton has the edge over Kevin Kolb, but who knows? The Cardinals aren’t saying a thing. They probably won’t until next week.
There are other questions to be answered. These are answers I didn’t necessarily expected to be completely answered as they broke camp today, however with just two games of the preseason left, time is ticking.
Will the Cardinals be able to adjust to the loss of Levi Brown? The short answer is, I don’t know. Brown came on in the second half of 2011, but really will a guy like D.J. Young be able to come in an adequately get the job done? Nothing is for sure with the Cards offensive line.
Will Ryan Williams and Beanie Wells be able to stay healthy enough to provide a formidable one-two punch in the backfield? Williams looked good last week against the Oakland Raiders. Wells gets his first action of the preseason on Thursday against the Tennessee Titans.
Is the defense improved? They looked awful the first couple of weeks, however they did look better against the Raiders. They still aren’t where people would like to see them, but as the season grows closer so will the defense. I’m not worried – yet.
Still a number of questions beyond this, but nothing major. We may be able to see the quarterback competition come to fruition against Tennessee and it will be nice to see Wells get some action.
