Cardinals Make Interesting Selections for Initial Practice Squad
By Scott Allen
The Arizona Cardinals found themselves a diverse field of players for their eight-man practice squad over the weekend after setting their initial 53-man roster on Friday. The Cardinals practice squad includes two Arizona State Sun Devils and one Arizona Wildcat. They added four defenders and four players for the offensive side of the ball.
Included in the defense are:
Ricky Elmore, OLB, Arizona
Ricky Lumpkin, DT, Kentucky
Colin Parker, LB, Arizona State
Larry Parker, CB, San Diego State
On offense:
Stephen Baker, T, East Carolina
Gerell Robinson, WR, Arizona State
Steve Skelton, TE, Fordham
Isaiah Williams, WR, Maryland
Skelton, brother of Cards quarterback John Skelton, had a pretty good preseason. He was close to making the initial roster. Given the Cards reputation for tight ends getting hurt, I imagine he will be on the field sooner rather than later. That is, unless another teams signs him off the practice squad, which is definitely a possibility. Other teams will have tape on him, so he’ll be no secret.
It is interesting that the Cards also went with Isaiah Williams. I never viewed him as being that close to making the roster. Shows you what I know though. Having three of the eight players on the squad with local ties says something too. These guys are an injury away though from being on the roster.
