If Ray Horton was smart, he took out the film from last year’s game between the Arizona Cardinals and the Philadelphia Eagles, and showed it to the Cardinals players this week. The Cardinals won that game 21-17, and the defense was spectacular!
How spectacular? Well, Michael Vick only completed 16 of his 34 passes for a measly 128 yards, was intercepted twice (once by Calais Campbell), and was knocked out of the game by a tough, clean hit by Paris Lenon. Daryl Washington had nine tackles and a sack. And A.J. Jefferson sealed the victory with a game-ending interception against backup quarterback Vince Young.
If the Cardinals are going to win on Sunday, the defense will have to have another stellar game like last year. Even with a couple of their defensive players out with injuries, the Eagles have a very strong defensive unit — so don’t expect the Cardinals to put a lot of points on the board. Still, the Cardinals can beat the Eagles the very same way they beat the Seahawks and the Patriots — by making stops when they count, and making the most of their opportunities to score.
