Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington was in court on Tuesday to make an appearance on his charges of injuring his ex-girlfriend.  He is accused of grabbing his ex-girlfriend and pushing her to the ground with both hands, causing her to break her collarbone.  His case was continued until October 9th.

Cards coach Bruce Arians has said Washington, who is also facing a four-game suspension to start the season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, will play a lot during the preseason.  He will need it, however, after playing for four weeks and then sitting for four weeks, what kind of impact will that have when he returns in October, if he returns in October?

Arians said he is happy with where D-Wash is at right now.  Because he will be sitting out the first four games of the regular season, he will see action during the preseason usually reserved for second and third team players.  Of course the question I have is, since he will be playing with second and third teamers, does this take away from someone else’s chances?  Maybe.  That remains to be seen, however it is a concern.  For the Cards part they have not mentioned any such concern.

For now, we know Washington will get to play in the Carolina game on October 6th given his next court date isn’t until the 9th.  If his charges are proven true, then he needs an immediate suspension, regardless of when he is responsible for any punishment by law enforcement.  We all hope for a quick resolution.  This week though the only focus should be on preparing for the Green Bay Packers.  Get ready for a heavy dose of D-Wash.
