Former Arizona Cardinals quarterback is not impressed with the Tennessee Titans head coach hiring of former Cards head coach Ken Whisenhunt. He said Kurt Warner ran the team and doesn’t think it’s a good fit for Tennessee. Hold a grudge much Matty?
"You look at his tenure in Arizona, only two years he had success and in those two years Kurt Warner ran that football team"
Wow. I understand if he didn’t get along with Whisenhunt but I think he took his comments a little too far, even if he was only given 30 seconds to share them with Fox Sports. Here is a guy who comes off as sour grapes. He lost his starting job to Warner with Whisenhunt at the helm. He basically lost it because of an injury. While I’m never much in favor of a guy losing a job to injury, it was the right move given the rise of Warner and the inconsistencies of Leinart back in 2007.
Leinart is about the only person I’ve heard have anything negative to say about the hire. I think these comments clearly show Whisenhunt was in the right to rid of him. He became a distraction and would have been nothing but a disgruntled backup if he had stayed back in 2010 instead of being cut right before the season started. I say that even now knowing Derek Anderson ended up being the starter. We all know how that turned out.
It is a definite shot at Whisenhunt by saying Warner ran the team. I would also dispute the two years of success. I would say three. He led the Cards to 8-8 in his first season before the two playoff years. Not all the failures were his fault either. I did agree last year it was time for Whisenhunt to go. They had reached rock bottom and change was needed for all parties.
I’m glad Whiz is getting another shot and I do believe he is a good fit in Tennessee. Leinart should have just said no comment when asked about the hire if he truly felt that way. We’re all sorry you couldn’t cut it as an NFL quarterback Matty. Go find a frat house to hang at.
