Word comes this afternoon that the Arizona Cardinals are no longer a suitor for offensive lineman Brandon Albert. The free agent from Kansas City seems headed down to the Miami Dolphins. It really doesn’t come as much shock.
Cards defensive end Darnell Dockett tweeted on Friday welcoming Albert to the Cards but quickly deleted it. Many felt it was just Dockett stiring the mix. There might have been some truth to Albert having interest in the Cards but honestly it may end up being for the best. Now it is time for the Cards to set their sights on others.
One of those others you might be hearing about over the next couple of days is free agent offensive lineman Jared Veldheer. Veldheer last played for the Oakland Raiders. Two things will interest Cards fans choosing Veldheer over Albert. Veldheer is three years younger and also will come cheaper. The Raiders failed to franchise tag him last week.
There was also a lot of rumors over the last several days the Cards would be interested in Rodger Saffold, formerly of the St. Louis Rams. According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic the Card may never have had that much interest in Saffold to begin with. I’m not sure of the actual interest by either party but he would be a decent option. I also like Michael Oher, who is a free agent from the Baltimore Ravens. In any matter, taking any of those guys means the Cards save some money.
