The Cardinals get a well deserved piece of the puzzle done today by resigning Matt Shaughnessy to a two year deal. Shaughnessy was a very good player for this team last year, his stats may not reflect that in sacks but if there was a stat for being disruptive and causing bad throws with pressure he would be at the top of the list. This is a key piece of the Cardinals building a contender for years to come, Shaughnessy is only 27 years of age turning in a good season despite playing along side great talent and impressed us all enough to want him to return. Shaughnessy recorded 36 tackles 3 sacks 3 fumble recoveries and forced 1 fumble playing in all 16 games and started in 12.
The role for Shaughnessy may increase having turned in the type of season he did and not adding another pass rusher so far it looks like the Cardinals will look to Shaughnessy for bigger production next year. The New England Patriots had Shaughnessy on their visit list, but I and many fans are glad that Shaughnessy saw the best place for his career was to resign with the group he went to war with last year.
