The Arizona Cardinals signed free agent Ted Ginn Jr to a 3 year deal and the numbers have not been disclosed. In my opinion, they signed him for one thing and one thing only and that is speed.

The Cardinals needed speed to help stretch the field in the Bruce Arians passing system and this is a good signing based solely on that need.

Ted Ginn has for the most part been a number three receiver in the NFL sense he was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 2007 draft.

Ginn made his name in the league by returning kickoffs and he was electric in this department, but now that the NFL has almost taking the kick return out of the league it really exposed Ginn’s lack of wide receiver skills.

But with that being said, Ginn did have a pretty decent receiving year last year with the Carolina Panthers where he recorded 36 catches for 556 yards and 5 touchdowns, and also returned 26 punts along with 28 kick returns and this part of his game is still dangerous, perhaps the Cardinals can spell Patrick Peterson from this responsibility and allow Ginn to bring back the special teams returns to this team.

As far as the Cardinals on offense, their need has been filled and this piece may not be the dynamic piece right now but can quickly change when the season gets going because speed in Arians offense will make this offense dangerous. Ginn can be a great compliment to Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd and the two tight ends, this can be the piece that opens up this offense to near impossible to stop for opposing defenses.

Ginn may not catch 50 balls but the catches he will get will be the big large down the field electric variety.
