It’s funny how sometimes people can take a simple rumor and run with it as if it were fact. Over the past several days I’ve read where there are rumors that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking to trade quarterback Mike Glennon, now that they have signed Josh McCown. While I do believe the Bucs are looking to possibly trade him, I do not believe the Arizona Cardinals are his suitor.
Is Glennon worth a couple of high draft picks? Personally, I don’t think so. However a large portion of the Cards fan base is so desperate to rid of Carson Palmer and start anew with another possible franchise quarterback, they tend to believe the Cards have a high interest in making the move. Honestly, I don’t know one way or the other but for me Glennon just doesn’t make sense.
My feeling is if the Cards thought that highly of Glennon, why didn’t they draft him last year? Sure, he had a decent season but not good enough to warrant maintaining the starting job in Tampa. Bucs Coach Lovie Davis wants McCown yes but why was Tampa so hot to move to get another quarterback if Glennon supposedly has that much upside?
Yes, I get this isn’t the best class of quarterbacks in the draft this year but I believe it is overall a better crop than 2013. I just don’t think the Cards are going to give away a couple of their picks for a guy they could have drafted or traded for last season. If it happens, it happens and I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong on my guess. My best guess is though, this move won’t happen. More likely I could see Glennon end up in a place like Cleveland.
