With the 27th pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select….safety Deone Bucannon, Washington State. A surprise pick no doubt. The pick is a safe one but also fills a need for the Cards in the defensive backfield.
Bucannon is a big hitter. He has big game experience playing in the Pac-12. He is mostly known as an explosive hitter though. He had six interceptions and three forced fumbles for the Cougars in 2013.
His biggest weaknesses seem to be he is vulnerable to offensive players jukes and moves made on him. According to cbssportsline.com, the analysis on him is although he is a big hitter he lunges and misses a lot too. He was a first-team All-American with 78 solo tackles in 2013. That is an impressive stat in 12 games. He has ideal size for his position and seems to have decent speed. He ran a 4.48 40-yard dash in the NFL Scouting Combine back in February. He is fourth all-time in tackles at WSU with 384 of them but had 268 solo tackles, which are second in WSU history.
