Coming straight from his Twitter feed this evening, Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson announced that he has reached a new deal with the team. He said the deal is a five-year deal worth $70 million. He said $48 million of it is guaranteed. This is music to not only my ears but to the ears of all Cards fans.
I think it was just a matter of time before a deal got done. It is also nice to get the deal done this early in camp so it doesn’t drag and possibly become a distraction. There was a lot of talk in the off-season about whether the Cards could get a deal done with him and if so, for how much?
Now all the talk is done. Peterson can concentrate on football only. He’s going to get paid and not only that, he has a new focus on the football field as previously noted. Peterson will stick to just cornerback duties this season. Peterson has gotten both of his distractions out of the way in the first four days of camp. That’s pretty impressive if you ask me. I’m just glad it’s done and we don’t have to hear about it or speculate about it anymore. Play ball!
