The Arizona Cardinals have released a statement in regards to running back Jonathan Dwyer, who was arrested by Phoenix Police on Tuesday afternoon. He has been deactivated and removed from all football activities.
Arizona Cardinals statement:
Police just concluded a press conference. The report is that Dwyer injured a 27-year old woman and an 18-month old toddler in separate incidents. Just hearing that is awful much less the alleged actual event. Dwyer was arrested on aggravated assault. Dwyer won’t return until this is resolved but if these reports are true Dwyer in my estimation should be done with football forever. There can not be any tolerance for domestic abuse.
For the Cardinals part I am glad they acted quickly. As this point, they had no other choice. When will it stop? This incident apparently took place in July. The injured woman had kept records of the incident. Maybe the issue of domestic violence being in the forefront of NFL news got her to finally come forward? Whatever the reason, if it is true, I’m glad she did come forward.
