The Arizona Cardinals, always looking for the next man up, signed former Arizona State running back Marion Grice off the San Diego Chargers practice squad on Monday.  There was no corresponding move immediately announced.

Grice spent the preseason with the Chargers and was initially cut from the team in final cut downs to the 53-man roster.  He was then signed the next day to their practice squad.  It is an interesting move considering the Cards just signed Jalen Parmele last Thursday to replace Jonathan Dwyer.  Parmele got just one carry in the 23-14 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

Read one suggestion on Twitter that actually makes sense here too.  The Chargers, who lost running back Ryan Mathews for several weeks last week and lost Danny Woodhead for the season today after breaking his fibula in yesterday’s victory against the Buffalo Bills, was going to need a back themselves. Did Cards General Manager Steve Keim sign him to make sure Chargers could not promte him?  I think that’s a bit far fetched given I’m not sure what advantage that gives the Cards being in the NFC?

Some Cards fans were calling for Grice to be picked up by Cards after being cut by the Chargers initially.  Not sure he is the right type of back for the Cards but he’s going to get a chance now.  We’ll see what the former Sun Devil has to offer.  Doesn’t hurt anything.
