Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer was officially charged on Monday with one count of aggravated assault and eight misdemeanors in connection with hitting his wife back on July 21st. A Maricopa County Grand Jury did not return any indictments on injuring his son in connection with the incident. Dwyer was placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list by the team almost two weeks ago when the news broke of his arrest.
Dwyer, who was just signed as a free agent in the off-season, was arrested on September 17th in connection with incidents that took place at his Phoenix apartment back in July. His wife did not immediately come forward for reasons of apparent worry for Dwyer hurting himself and hurting her again. According to Phoenix Police the dispute started with suspicion of Dwyer cheating on his wife.
The Cards acted quickly on September 18th by placing Dwyer on the Reserve list, effectively ending his season. The NFL has said it will review his case under the Personal Conduct Policy. Coach Bruce Arians has said the only way Dwyer would ever be welcome back is if he is completely exonerated of all chargers.
