Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer was plan A.  Quarterback Drew Stanton is plan B.  Plan B is about to start his third game of the season on Sunday at the Denver Broncos.  Plan C?  His name is Logan Thomas.

Thomas, while having a lot of upside, as we saw in the preseason, is not NFL regular season ready, not even close.  The problem is as it stands right now, if Stanton gets injured, Thomas is the next man up as it stands right now.  Just thinking about that has me reliving the 2010-2012 years all over again.  The Cards can’t allow that to happen.

Realizing there is not a lot out there to pick from, there is still experience out there to be had.  Guys like Rex Grossman, David Garrard, Josh Freeman, and Brady Quinn jump out.  Now, I didn’t say they were great options but if you’re the Cardinals, don’t you have to knock on some of these doors right now?  You probably could trade for a Mark Sanchez or Matt Schaub.

If the Cardinals are serious about winning, they need to have a better option than Thomas after Stanton right now.  My guess is they are going to see what the second opinion results are on Palmer before bringing someone in but they have to be putting feelers out now.  Be prepared.  The news on Palmer may not be pretty but if it turns out bad for him, then Stanton and the Cards need to buy that insurance immediately.
