In a surprise injury announcement, Arizona Cardinals Bruce Arians said in his press conference that linebacker Matt Shaughnessy has been placed on injured reserve-designated to return.  He has a torn meniscus, suffered in the 41-20 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

What this means is that Shaughnessy will not be able to return to practice for six weeks.  He will not be able to return to playing until the Kansas City Chiefs game on December 7th at the earliest.  The news comes as a bit of a shock but the way things have gone with injuries it really shouldn’t be all that surprising.

The Cards did get good news though on defensive end Calais Campbell.  He did not have a tear in his MCL.  He is expected to miss only 1-3 weeks.  Also, quarterback Carson Palmer, who is in Denver this morning to visit a nerve specialist, is expected to return to Phoenix this afternoon and Arians said depending on how he is doing, he may be able to throw in practice this afternoon.  If not, maybe Wednesday.
