Arizona Cardinals running back Marion Grice saw his first regular season action on Sunday in relief of starting running back Andre Ellington

When former Arizona State and current Arizona Cardinals running back Marion Grice was let go in final cuts by the San Diego Chargers, Cardinals fans practically begged for the Cards to pick him up.  The thought by some was at first they didn’t need him, wouldn’t fit in with the team.  How quickly things changed.

Grice was signed to the Charger practice squad but before the teams met on Monday Night Football in week one, the Cards swept him up and signed him to the active roster.  Some viewed the move though as nothing more than picking a guy up to get information from him.

That thought died down after the Cards hung onto him in the weeks after.  However, because the depth chart was set, Grice was inactive each week until last week against the Philadelphia Eagles.  He did not see any game action though.

Then running back Stepfan Taylor went down with a calf injury.  That injury is expected to keep Taylor out up to eight weeks.  Grice was activated again this week.  However with Robert Hughes and also newly promoted Kerwynn Williams, we were still not sure what we’d see from Grice.

However the hard running Marion Grice we saw at ASU showed up yesterday against the Cowboys.  Grice ran five times for 12 yards and scored his first NFL touchdown.

Marion Grice ran hard enough on Sunday that I expect to see much more of him.  He may even grow into the Taylor role.  He’s a nice spell for a guy who gets a lot of touches like Ellington.
