Arizona Cardinals Now One Big Hit Away From Ryan Lindley

The Arizona Cardinals signed their former backup quarterback off of the San Diego Chargers practice squad on Tuesday

Welcome back Mr. Lindley.  It feels like old times again.  Ok, so maybe not old times.  Not just yet anyway.  The Arizona Cardinals signed their former draft pick in 2012 off of the San Diego Chargers practice squad Tuesday after putting quarterback Carson Palmer on the Injured Reserve.

After Palmer went down with a torn ACL for the season on Sunday, it was only a matter of time before the Cardinals made the move to replace him.  Honestly though I never thought about that guy being Ryan Lindley.  As much as I ignored the possibility, it certainly makes the most sense.

Lindley was cut by the Cardinals in the last preseason cuts, deciding to go with rookie Logan Thomas instead.  However that was with the thought Thomas wouldn’t have to see the field in 2014 and learn behind Palmer and Drew Stanton.  Thomas played against the Denver Broncos and what they saw had to scare them.

The next big hit on Stanton probably means Ryan Lindley is your next quarterback for the Cardinals.  He knows the system.  He spent all of 2013 as the third-string quarterback.  I have to believe if Stanton gets injured, they will leap frog Thomas and go straight to Lindley.  It’s all about who gives you the best chance to win.

The signing of Ryan Lindley though means he must go on the active 53-man roster.  He can not be taken off one practice squad and placed on another.  I would not be surprised to see him listed as the backup this Sunday against the Detroit Lions.
