Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson Wins Defensive Honor

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson had his first career pick-six in Sunday’s victory over the St. Louis Rams

You knew the honor had to be coming.  How could you ignore Patrick Peterson’s first two interceptions of the season coming off the heels of a great performance in Dallas against Dez Bryant?  Well, the NFL did not ignore him and Peterson won the NFC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday.

More from Cardinals News

For Patrick Peterson, he had two interceptions in the fourth quarter of the 31-14 victory over the St. Louis Rams.  One of them was returned for a touchdown that put the Cardinals up 24-14 at the time.  Amazingly that was the first interception return fort a touchdown in Peterson’s NFL career.

Peterson has now won multiple defensive player of the week awards.  He has also won multiple special teams player of the week awards.  He becomes the first player in NFL history to win multiple awards in two facets of the game.  That’s quite an accomplishment.

Many have criticized Peterson about his play the first half of the 2014 season.  He’s been beaten by average receivers.  He’s been flagged multiple times and shown his outwards frustration on almost every single one of those times.

We got some insight from coach Bruce Arians last week that Peterson had been going through some personal things that had been resolved prior to the Dallas game.  Now he has had his two best games of the season back to back.  Suffice it to say Peterson appears to be back.  Let’s just hope he keeps it up.
