Arizona Cardinals Tab Ryan Lindley To Start Against Seahawks

The Arizona Cardinals will also have a package of plays ready for rookie quarterback Logan Thomas

The Arizona Cardinals are at home this Sunday night against the Seattle Seahawks.  This much we know.  We also know quarterback Drew Stanton is out up to four weeks.  So on Monday, head coach Bruce Arians tabbed Ryan Lindley to be the starter.

Lindley starts because he has the experience. He has been in the system longer even though he was cut after the preseason and came back five weeks ago after Carson Palmer went out for the season.  This doesn’t mean we may not see Logan Thomas though.

Arians said they would have a package of plays in place for Thomas.  Whether that comes to fruition or not certainly lies with Lindley and how he is performing.

This announcement of course set off a debate of whether Lindley was the right choice over Thomas.  I say it is the only choice.  Arians confirmed Thomas is just not ready.  With a game this huge things can go south in a hurry if something goes wrong and he doesn’t want to put Thomas through that.  He did mention on the Bickley and Marotta show on Arizona Sports 98.7 that Thomas is getting better week by week.

I understand why some people want Thomas but some of them are basing that off of the first preseason game in which Thomas looked very good moving the offense.  That was preseason though.  Quite frankly he didn’t look that great in his only regular season action at the Denver Broncos back in October.

I will say this though.  If Lindley does allow things to go south on him quickly, I would say at that point do bring in Thomas and see what he can do.  I don’t think that will happen though.  Not that we won’t see Thomas but I think the right game plan will be put into place t allow Lindley to succeed Sunday night.
