Arizona Cardinals: Update on Sean Weatherspoon, Others
By Scott Allen
The Arizona Cardinals are rumored to be in on quite a number of free agents
Earlier on Sunday it was reported that Atlanta Falcons free agent linebacker Sean Weatherspoon was drawing interest from the New Orleans Saints and the Arizona Cardinals. On Sunday evening, a few sources indicated that the Cardinals are preparing to make Weatherspoon an offer.

The rumored offer is for two-years. Other details were not available but earlier in the day I questioned the risk the Cardinals would be taking by bringing in a player that missed all of 2014 due to an ruptured Achilles tendon and only played in seven games in 2013.
I’m still on the fence but it certainly seems Cardinals fans are mostly in favor of taking the risk. I think it will depend on the deal they offer him and what he agrees to, if he does agree with the Cardinals.
Weatherspoon wasn’t the only player that was linked to the Cardinals. Centers A.Q. Shipley from the Indianapolis Colts and Stefen Wisniewski from the Oakland Raiders have both come up in conversation. Our colleagues over at revengeofthebirds.com mentioned them as possibilities on Saturday. If the Cardinals get one of those guys you could see center Lyle Sendlein gone.
Then there is the Washington Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo. His name came up in free agency conversations about the Arizona Cardinals as well. With Witherspoon as a possibility I would think Orakpo would not happen.
Then let’s never forget the running backs. There were a couple of reports out on Sunday that the Cardinals have been clearing all of this cap space for the Minnesota Vikings Adrian Peterson. They would need to trade for him though. Nothing more to update on that as of late Sunday evening. Expect more talk early in the week. Of course the Cardinals have also been mentioned as suitors for DeMarco Murray as well. Sounds like he might stay with the Dallas Cowboys.
UPDATE: Yahoo Sports Rand Getlin is reporting late Sunday evening that the Cardinals will be agreeing to a one-year deal with Sean Weatherspoon. Much more on this on Monday.
