The Arizona Cardinals have once again opened up Pittsburgh Steelers West

The Arizona Cardinals are intent on adding bodies at linebacker.  Can you blame them?  After getting Sean Weatherspoon they’ve now added former Pittsburgh Steelers and Oakland Raiders linebacker Lamarr Woodley.

Woodley seems like a guy added for depth.  If there is one position you want the Cardinals to add depth to, linebacker certainly comes to mind.  With injuries and suspensions, the Cardinals have had a huge revolving door at the position.

Woodley only played in six games in 2014 for the Raiders.  He started five of them.  He had five tackles.  He spent the first seven seasons of his career though with the Steelers.  He had 299 tackles and 57 sacks in those seven seasons.  Certainly he is a guy with talent so we shall see what exactly he adds here in Arizona.

Woodley’s health though is a question.  He suffered a biceps injury in October for the Raiders and was lost for the rest of the season.  The Cardinals seems to be going after some risk at linebacker and that’s what makes the additions to the position intriguing.  If Weatherspoon and Woodley remain healthy though they can certainly do some damage for the Cardinals defense.

You’re talking about a guy in Woodley that had double digit sacks in 2009, 2010, and 2011.  Age certainly could come into play but he is just still 30.  He will turn 31 in November.

One other great thing about Woodley is he is versatile.  He will play mostly linebacker I imagine however he does have experience as a defensive end as well.  He could certainly find time to spell a guy like Calais Campbell from time to time.
