Arizona Cardinals: Wednesday Evening Free Agency Update
By Scott Allen
The Arizona Cardinals add five new players and re-sign one of their own on a busy Wednesday
The Arizona Cardinals got a lot of the players they were reportedly after the past couple of days on Wednesday and met the need for depth in a few positions. The Cardinals added a linebacker, a center, two defensive lineman, and the best offensive lineman on the market. They also re-signed their long snapper.

Say hello to:
Sean Weatherspoon – he was on the radar since Sunday. Many thought he would sign on Tuesday when free agency started but he finally got his deal done on Wednesday. He got a one-year make-good deal from the Cardinals but that suits him just fine. He is coming off missing the entire 2014 season due to a torn Achilles tendon.
Corey Peters – comes to Arizona along with Weatherspoon from the Atlanta Falcons. He will add much needed depth on the defensive line after the losses the Cardinals have suffered there.
A.Q. Shipley – his arrival likely spells the end of Lyle Sendlein’s career in Arizona. Shipley was one of the earliest rumored players to be coveted by the Cardinals. He was with the Indianapolis Colts, so head coach Bruce Arians has familiarity with him.
Cory Redding – the defensive lineman also came over from the Colts. He can still produce but many Cardinals fans asking how much? He is currently 34 but will turn 35 during the season. The Cardinals gave him a two-year contract but they have the ability to terminate his contract after one season if things don’t work out in 2015.
Mike Iupati – what a great pickup. This might be one of the best free agent pickups ever by the Arizona Cardinals. I rank this right up there with Edgerrin James in 2006. He was ranked as the fourth-best free agent available by nfl.com. He signed a huge five-year, $40 million deal on Wednesday. I also listened to him be interviewed by arizonasports.com and what a super great guy he sounds like. I think fans will love him.
Mike Leach – the Cardinals re-signed their long snapper. He will be entering his 16th season in the NFL. He is 38 years old but it is so great to have continued experience at this important position.
Say goodbye to:
Dan Williams – he left for the Oakland Raiders on Wednesday. For $15 million, I don’t blame him. The Cardinals weren’t going to give him anything close to that. I also love his thank you to the organization and to the fans on Twitter after the signing was announced.
