Mathieu, a.k.a. Honey Badger, received the award which is voted upon by players. Players choose someone on their team who best exemplifies sportsmanship and courage. It is also a symbol of professionalism and dedication. To me this is one of the highest honors a player can receive from his teammates.
Mathieu, whose character was in question just two years ago after getting into trouble at LSU, was a surprise pick by the Cardinals in the draft. However he has proven to be not only a great player on the field but an even better person off of it. People had their doubts about him but he has proven his critics wrong to this point.
According to their website, the Ed Block Courage Award recipient is identified as a team player in helping abused children and families in crisis. Fans on Twitter poured in with congratulations.
