Arizona Cardinals Mini-Camp Is Underway

The final team activity before training camp takes place this week for the Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals take to the field today through Thursday for a mandatory mini-camp.  It will be the last practices for the Cardinals until training camp starts at the end of July.

Included in the festivities will be quarterback Carson Palmer.  He has been cleared for 11-11 drills.  That is huge news considering it was just seven months ago today that he re-tore his ACL.

Still there are other questions that remain going into this week and into training camp.  Where does linebacker Daryl Washington stand?  I haven’t mentioned his name because he still hasn’t been reinstated and technically not part of the team right now.  There has been no news nor any indication there will be any forthcoming.

Their is competition in pretty much every area.  Certain people, while not “given” a starting position, are locks.  Those guys include Palmer, offensive lineman Jared Veldheer, running back Andre Ellington, cornerback Patrick Peterson, safety Tyrann Mathieu, guys like that.

There are no givens though.  Larry Fitzgerald will be a big part of the offense but is he a number one, two, or even three receiver?  Does rookie running back David Johnson take hold of backup running back?  Who will be the starting cornerback opposite Peterson?  Will it be Jerraud Powers?  Maybe Justin Bethel?  Maybe that guy is still out there outside the organization waiting for his chance?

We know the team will be good.  It is just a matter of who will be helping the Cardinals achieve great things in 2015.  Coach Bruce Arians, along with his staff, has the winning attitude.  It all starts there.

What you don’t want over the next six weeks is for players to get complacent, put on unnecessary weight, do nothing to keep in shape over the time gap between the end of this week and start of camp.  I don’t think this team will let it happen.  The team has unfinished business and now they are healthy for the most part, which is a huge step up from 2015.

We’ll watch the Cardinals over the next few days and have more to say how things transpired but let’s just hope for no injuries, at least major ones.  There is a lot to look forward to.  Training camp dates will be announced here once they are released by the Cardinals in the next few weeks.
