Player profile of LB Lorenzo Alexander as Arizona Cardinals training camp starts July 31st

As we prepare for Arizona Cardinals training camp reporting date of July 31st, it is time for our annual look at the roster player by player.  I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.

We go from A to Z and we start with linebacker Lorenzo Alexander.  This is his third season with the Cardinals.

Alexander is entering his ninth season in the NFL out of the University of California.  He spent the first six seasons of his career with the Washington Redskins.

2014 season: Alexander was strictly a backup in 2014.  He played in all 16 games but was used sparingly.  He accumulated 13 tackles and just one sack.  Believe it or not that was more production than the Cardinals got out of him in 2013 when he only played in three games due to a season-ending injury.

Currently Alexander is second on the depth chart.  He is behind Alex Okafor who I project to end up being the starter.

2015 season projection: Alexander will be on the final 53-man roster as long as he stays healthy.  He provides a solid respite for Okafor and gives depth to the position overall.

Again, the key for Alexander will be to stay healthy.  If he can do that, then there is no reason to doubt he will have success in 2015 whether it is starting or in a supporting role.
