Player profile of S Deone Bucannon as Arizona Cardinals training camp starts July 31st

As we prepare for Arizona Cardinals training camp reporting date of July 31st, it is time for our annual look at the roster player by player.  I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.

We go from A to Z and continue with S Deone Bucannon.  Bucannon is in his second season in the NFL out of Washington State.

2014 season: Bucannon played in all 16 games as a rookie, starting nine of them last season.  He had one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, two passes defensed, two sacks, and 66 tackles.  That sounds like a pretty productive first year.

2015 season projection:  Bucannon’s second season with the Cardinals sounds like it could be even fuller.  A safety by trade, the Cardinals may look to move Bucannon around the defense, playing some linebacker as well.  He has said he is just happy to be here and will play wherever he is needed.

Bucannon could be a huge asset with his flexibility to play wherever the Cardinals need him.  The Cardinals are thin at corner and need all the depth they can get at linebacker.  Hopefully getting Bucannon to play all these different roles won’t diminish anything he still learning at safety but with his body type I’d move him around as well.  He’s a hard hitter.  Now you just have to hope he isn’t going to get into any trouble with his hitting.  He did find himself with fines last season but he’ll learn.
