Player profile of G Jonathan Cooper as Arizona Cardinals training camp starts July 31st
As we prepare for Arizona Cardinals training camp reporting date of July 31st, it is time for our annual look at the roster player by player. I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.
We go from A to Z and continue with G Jonathan Cooper. Cooper enters his third NFL season with the Cardinals.

2014 season: Cooper returned from missing the entire 2013 season with a broken leg. However Cooper dealt with more injury and more inconsistency in his play. He only played in 10 games in the 2014 season, starting just two of them. He was projected to be a full-time starter when he was drafted. If he wasn’t healthy he wasn’t playing and if he was playing he couldn’t crack the starting lineup.
2015 season projection: I know the Cardinals still think Cooper can be great. He’s going to get another chance to take control of the position the Cardinals wanted him to take two years ago. If he stays healthy then the concern is he needs to play better. He should go into camp as the number one right guard but he’ll have to earn it to keep it. Right behind him is Earl Watford.
No doubt he has his critics. I’ve been critical of him in the past. He says he’s ready to prove his doubters wrong. I truly hope he believes that. If he can reach the potential he has he will dominate. I have no doubts about that. It’s a matter of him really wanting that though. Let’s see what he has this August.
