Arizona Cardinals From A To Z: Alani Fua
By Scott Allen
Player profile of ILB Alani Fua as Arizona Cardinals training camp starts July 31st
As we prepare for Arizona Cardinals training camp reporting date of July 31st, it is time for our annual look at the roster player by player. I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.
We go from A to Z and continue with ILB Alani Fua. Fua is a rookie from Brigham Young University, signed as an undrafted free agent after not being selected in the 2015 NFL Draft.

2014 season: Fua played in 10 games for the BYU Cougars, starting nine of them last season. He was second on the team in sacks with four. He also had an interception return for touchdown against Memphis in the Miami Beach Bowl. He was also one of SI.com’s top seven prospects from smaller conferences.
2015 season projection: His lack of size and power is what the big knock is on Fua. The man can play football but it is still to be determined if there is a place for him on an NFL roster. Hi might have a difficult time making the Cardinals roster, even with the depth issues they have. I give him a shot though. Let’s see what he can do in the preseason. He has good zone awareness and is known to be able to cover slot receivers well.
He could be a hidden gem. We all thought Max Hall could never make an NFL roster back in 2010. It turns out he couldn’t play at this level but that was more about his talent rather than his smaller size. I’ve seen smaller players who lack true NFL size not make it in the past. I’m going to give him a long hard look this preseason.
