Arizona Cardinals: Gerald Christian Enjoying Irrelevant Week
The Arizona Cardinals’ Gerald Christian is enjoying his limelight as this year’s Mr. Irrelevant.
With the 256th pick in the NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals took tight end Gerald Christian out of the University of Louisville. The significance of the 256th pick is that it is also the last pick of the draft, and along with this pick comes the title of “Mr. Irrelevant.”

Aside from the first overall pick, the Mr. Irrelevant pick is arguable one of the best spots to be drafted. Along with a respectable payday, the title of Mr. Irrelevant comes Irrelevant Week, which includes a paid vacation in Newport Beach, California featuring a golf tournament, a Comedy Central style roast, and a regatta.
The best part about being Mr. Irrelevant is arguably The Lowsman Trophy:
Gerald Christian is currently spending Irrelevant Week with his family, and as expected, he seems to be having a great time.
On a football note, Gerald Christian has a great shot to make the roster, even though he was a 7th round pick. The Arizona Cardinals have very minimal tight end depth, which got shorter this past offseason with the unexpected retirement of John Carlson. As a Cardinal, Louisville Cardinal that is, Christian finished his senior season with 384 yards to go along with 5 touchdowns, and finished 3rd All-ACC.
You can probably tell that Christian is not a pass catching tight end, and more of a blocking tight end which Head Coach Bruce Arians loves. Gerald Christian is a physically strong player at 6’3″ and 244 lbs, and I expect him to be a high motor guy, and he could end up being one of Bruce Arians’ favorite players. He presents a ton of upside at the tight end position, which is currently one of the weakest spots on the Arizona Cardinals’ roster.
Time will tell whether Gerald Christian makes an impact on the football field, but in the mean time, it’s nice to see Christian enjoy his time on center stage.
Fun Fact: Arizona Cardinals’ QB Chandler Harnish was Mr. Irrelevant 0f 2012.
