Player profile of DE Rodney Gunter as Arizona Cardinals training camp starts July 31st

As we prepare for Arizona Cardinals training camp reporting date of July 31st, it is time for our annual look at the roster player by player.  I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.

We go from A to Z and continue with DE Rodney Gunter.  Gunter was drafted out of Deleware State University in the fourth round (116th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

2014 season: Gunter was a senior at Deleware State.  He garnered interest from as many as 12 teams during the pre-draft process.  His four-year total at Deleware State included 188 tackles and 18 sacks.  He can get after it.

2015 season projection: Some consider Gunter a steal in this draft.  A number of analysts certainly think the Cardinals got a steal.  Relatively unknown to fans but NFL teams knew about him.  He is a versatile player who told media after being selected that he sees himself as possibly the next J.J. Watt.  He will take some fine tuning to get used to the NFL game but he’s a guy that could be around awhile.

I agree that he could be a big star in this league.  He is everything NFL teams look for in a defensive end.  He also has the advantage of some others not knowing much about him yet.  I know a number of NFL teams looked at him but until you get the guy in camp you don’t know what you really have.  The Cardinals are high on him and rightfully so.  I think we will hear his name often on Sunday’s over the next several years.
