Arizona Cardinals from A to Z: Bobby Massie
By Scott Allen
Player profile of T Bobby Massie as Arizona Cardinals training camp has opened
As we have reached the Arizona Cardinals training camp reporting date of July 31st, it is time for our annual look at the roster player by player. I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.
We go from A to Z and continue with T Bobby Massie. Massie enters his fourth NFL season, all with the Cardinals.
2014 season: Massie one again started all 16 games for the Cardinals last season on the offensive line after playing in only eight games in 2013. He started all 16 games as a rookie in 2012. Last season Massie was a little more consistent but still lacked that killer instinct you normally see in consistent players.
2015 season projection: He’s got a fight on his hands for the starting tackle position. The offensive line has improved. His biggest competition probably comes from rookie first-round draft pick D.J. Humphries. You can bet if Humphries has a good camp he will be vying Massie for playing time.
Massie did have a rebound year in 2014 but he still needs to find more consistency. If that wasn’t the case, I don’t think the Cardinals go out and get Humphries in the first round and he certainly wouldn’t be facing the competition he will be the next four weeks. Massie should be fine though. There is room for both him and Humphries. It will be a matter though of who plays better in camp that initially will see the most playing time. At this stage in his fourth season in the NFL and after the improvements Massie made last season, you’d expect him to shine this preseason.
