Arizona Cardinals from A to Z: Tyrann Mathieu
By Scott Allen
Player profile of S Tyrann Mathieu as Arizona Cardinals training camp has opened
As we have reached the Arizona Cardinals first day of training camp practice, it is time to continue our annual look at the roster player by player. I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.
We go from A to Z and continue with S Tyrann Mathieu. Mathieu enters his third NFL season with the Cardinals.
2014 season: The season started slow for the “Honey Badger”. Coming off an ACL injury at the end of the 2013 season, Mathieu was slowed in training camp last year and brought along at a slow pace. He played in 13 games last year, starting six. He ended up with 36 tackles with one interception and four passes defensed. Just getting him onto the field last season was a victory in itself.
2015 projection: He should be the starting safety again. He’s now been back almost a year and this camp he should be at full strength. I would not put it past him to have better numbers than his rookie campaign in 2013 when he had 68 tackles, two interceptions, and nine passes defensed.
Watch out NFL, Honey Badger is back. It will be exciting to see him back at full strength and as you can see from the tweets it appears other fans feel the same way. He is just one more piece of the puzzle to winning a championship. Yes, he got to play last year but he was never 100 percent. Let’s get ’em Tyrann!
