Arizona Cardinals from A to Z: Antoine McClain
By Scott Allen
Player profile of G Antoine McClain as Arizona Cardinals training camp has opened
As we have reached the Arizona Cardinals training camp, it is time to continue our annual look at the roster player by player. I look at what they’ve done, where they are now and how I project each player’s status at the end of camp.
We go from A to Z and continue with G Antonie McClain. McClain is from Clemson and in his first season with the Cardinals.
2014 season: McClain has moved around. Last season he started with the Buffalo Bills in training camp. He was released at the end of August and signed the next day to the New Orleans Saints practice squad. He spent about three weeks with the Saints and then about two months later in November was signed to the Chicago Bears practice squad where he remained until December 31st when the Cardinals signed him to a futures contract.
2015 season projection: He will have a difficult time making this roster. The offensive line is as deep as I’ve seen it in years. He has Jonathan Cooper and Earl Watford in front of him at right guard. I think something would have to happen to one of them for McClain to crack the regular season roster.
McClain could be a guy that catches on somewhere if not Arizona. That seems to be him in a nutshell. He started as a undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 2012 before being given a shot with the Oakland Raiders in 2013 and then the Bills, Saints, and Bears last season.
